This company provides services for our sewer water in Lamont but had safety and environmental violations and may be closed. The meeting is this Wednesday, August 21st at 6:00pm at the David Head Center located at 10300 San Diego St. in Lamont. For more information call 868-3690.

La Supervisora Leticia Perez le invita a una junta sobre la compañía Community Recycling. Esta compañía ofrece servicios para nuestra agua de alcantarillado (aguas negras) en Lamont, pero tuvo violaciones de seguridad y ambientales y puede ser cerrada.  La junta es este Miércoles, 21 de agosto a las 6:00 p.m. en el salón David Head (10300 calle San Diego) en Lamont. Progress On Childhood Obesity/Progreso en la lucha contra la obesidad infantil

 Many States Show Declines /Muchos estados muestran disminuciones

 Obese children are more likely to become obese adults and suffer lifelong physical and mental health problems. Obesity rates in low-income preschoolers, after decades of rising, began to level off from 2003 through 2008 and now are showing small declines in many states. However, too many preschoolers are obese. State and local officials can play a big part in reducing obesity among preschoolers.

California WALKS and Greenfield Walking Group will be hosting a youth-led advocacy training institute next week in Bakersfield, July 30-August 1.

The Training will be featuring hands-on VideoVoice filming and editing training for youth to document existing community conditions and to express the changes they’d like to see happen.

In Central Valley, College Students Spend Summer Vacation in the Fields

ARVIN, Calif. — This small town in South Kern County is home to many
farmworkers, including young college students eager to make some cash during
their summer break. And although it may seem strange to those living outside of
California’s Central Valley, working in the fields, although physically
demanding, can be a gratifying experience for many of them.
