The Position: Community Health Worker/Promotora
Location: Kern
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Community Health Worker/Promotora
will conduct outreach and awareness activities in the assigned region to increase communities’
awareness, engagements and mitigation capabilities.
About Building Healthy Communities:
We are a nonprofit organization working to advance health and racial equity in Kern through
collaborative partnerships with community-based organizations, community groups, residents, youth,
health agencies, education institution and other community partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify and secure potential sites and groups to provide information regarding health,
education, community information and resources.
• Participate in town halls, door-to-door canvassing, tabling events, and to connect with the
community members, engage them with the educational materials, and identify gaps in
communities and resources.
• Deliver presentations on health, education and share materials at schools, faith-based
communities, workplaces, clinics, food banks and other spaces.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and files on all outreach and awareness activities
conducted including how many community members have been reached and engaged.
• Maintain consistent and constant communication with the Program Manager
regarding all program components including attending meetings with the
program team.

EDUCATION
There is no minimum educational requirement.
EXPERIENCE
● A minimum of one (1) years of experience working with monolingual and/or bilingual Latino
communities
● A minimum of one (1) years of experience conducting outreach and providing community health
awareness.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize a reliable alternative method of transportation
when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. Valid automobile liability insurance.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, groups, and the
public. Due to the population served, the ability to do so in Spanish and/or English is highly desired.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic computer skills for the purpose of data entry, sending and receiving email, calendar scheduling,
file sharing and confidentiality, and virtual meeting attendance. Proficiency with Google Suite is
preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to travel locally within the assigned region as required.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience conducting successful outreach in diverse settings.
● Experience with support groups, self-help groups and the utilization of community resources.
● Experience in providing outreach and awareness activities to adults.
● Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
● Availability to work the required hours as required.
● Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including shifts on weekends and evenings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
